Disability Rights Texas
Disability Rights Texas is the protection and advocacy agency for Texans with disabilities. It says these agencies were created by Congress so people with disabilities are safe from abuse and neglect and can use the right to be included. Texas residents facing disability discrimination, or problems getting disability services, can apply. It handles only certain disability legal issues. It does not handle divorce, bankruptcy, or child custody. It does not help with Social Security applications or with appeals of SSI or other Social Security denials. If you recently lost Medicaid because Social Security benefits changed, it may be able to help with that Medicaid problem. It decides which cases it takes. A decision takes at least 10 business days. Apply online, or call 1-800-252-9108. Phone intake is Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Central. Sign language video lines are on the apply page.
