Medicaid managed care
STAR+PLUS
Texas Health and Human Services
STAR+PLUS is Texas Medicaid managed care. It gives free health coverage to adults with disabilities or adults age 65 or older who are approved for Medicaid and meet a rule on the page. Long-term help can include care at home, home changes, a short break for a caregiver, and help getting things done. People with Medicare can get STAR+PLUS unless they get a 1915(c) waiver or live in a facility for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. If you have both Medicare and Medicaid, STAR+PLUS does not change how you get Medicare services. You choose a health plan in your area. This is health coverage. It is not the same as the STAR+PLUS HCBS interest list.
Next step
Apply for Medicaid online, or call 2-1-1, as the STAR+PLUS page says.
Medicaid Buy-In offers low-cost Medicaid to adults with disabilities who work. You must have a disability, be working, live in Texas, and not live full-time in a state institution or nursing home. HHSC uses Social Security disability rules. If you already get Social Security disability, you meet the disability rule. If you do not, HHSC reviews the disability. Earnings from a job or self-employment must be less than $3,325 a month before taxes, deductions, or exclusions. Countable things you own must be no more than $5,000. A monthly payment, if there is one, cannot be more than $500. The letter after you apply tells you the result.
Next step
Apply at YourTexasBenefits.com, at a local HHSC benefits office, or by calling 2-1-1.
The Medicaid Buy-In page says you can apply online at YourTexasBenefits.com, at a local benefits office, or by calling 2-1-1. The STAR+PLUS page also says to apply for Medicaid online or by calling 2-1-1. The address we opened forwards to the benefits site. HHSC decides the case. This listing does not describe a login screen.
Next step
Open Your Texas Benefits, or call 2-1-1 and ask how to apply.
