SNAP helps eligible low-income households buy food. Benefits go on a Lone Star Card. You can use it like a debit card at stores that take SNAP. You cannot buy tobacco, alcohol, non-food items, vitamins, or medicines. As of April 1, 2026, you also cannot buy candy or certain sweetened drinks. Read that list on the page before you shop. If everyone in the home is 60 or older, or has a disability, the Texas Simplified Application Project can make the application easier. It can give three years of benefits instead of six months. HHSC decides the case. This listing does not copy the income chart.
