Respite care

A break is part of care, not a failure. These programs decide who can get paid respite.

This is not medical, legal, or financial advice. Agencies decide. We opened the public pages named here on October 14, 2026.

Eldercare Locator. A person can help you find caregiver support near you. The program still decides who can get paid respite.

California

The California Department of Aging says every resident has a Caregiver Resource Center. There are 11 centers. They can help family caregivers of adults with Alzheimer's disease, stroke, Parkinson's, and other disorders, including respite at low or no cost. Family Caregiver Support through Area Agencies on Aging can include respite and training. Eligibility groups are on that page, including an adult 18 or older caring for someone 60 or older. Outside California, the same page points to the Eldercare Locator at 1-800-677-1116.

Texas

STAR+PLUS Home and Community Based Services is one of the six waiver programs on the Texas interest-list page. Being on a list is not the same as being enrolled, and this page does not quote a respite hour rule we did not open. Ask the counselor for the program you are in whether respite is a service, and read the interest list guide if you are still waiting.
