Devices, loans, and reuse
California's assistive technology program, short-term loans, and places that pass on used equipment. Not a store, and not a promise that insurance will pay.

Ability Tools, California's assistive technology program
Department of Rehabilitation and CFILC
DOR says it partners with the California Foundation for Independent Living Centers to run Ability Tools. The page describes device demonstrations, loans from 12 device lending libraries for 30 days or more, and an AT Exchange that passes a used device to someone who needs it. DOR lists AT@dor.ca.gov, abilitytools@cfilc.org, voice 1-916-325-1690, and TTY 1-916-325-1695.
Next step
Read the DOR page, then contact Ability Tools about a loan or the exchange.
Ability Tools says it is California's Assistive Technology Act program. Its home page names device lending and demonstration centers and assistive technology reuse centers selected for the northern, central, and southern regions: Community Resources for Independent Living, the Central Coast Assistive Technology Center, the Center for Applied Rehabilitation Technology, and Rolling Start.
Next step
Open Ability Tools and ask which lending or reuse center serves your region.
The coalition's site says the AT Exchange is a free Ability Tools service for gently used devices, want ads, and borrowing from device lending libraries. It also says reuse centers give donated assistive technology and durable medical equipment at free or low cost.
Next step
Open the reuse site and use its link to find a reuse center or the AT Exchange.
