Caregiver Resource Centers
California Department of Aging
The Department of Aging says 11 Caregiver Resource Centers serve families caring for adults with conditions such as Alzheimer's, stroke, Parkinson's, and other disorders, and that every resident has a center. Core services include respite (help paying for temporary in-home support, adult day care, short-term care, and transportation), counseling, and support groups, at low or no cost.
Next step
Open the Department of Aging page and contact the center for your area.
Area Agencies on Aging coordinate Family Caregiver Services. The department says services can include respite, a temporary break in or out of the home, and training. It lists who can get help, including adults 18 or older caring for someone 60 or older, and some caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease. Outside California, the page lists the Eldercare Locator at 1-800-677-1116.
Next step
Read who the program serves, then use Find Services in My County on the Department of Aging site.
The department's caregiver page says state and local programs offer free information, guidance, classes, and connections. It points people to Caregiver Resource Centers and to Family Caregiver Services at local Area Agencies on Aging.
